Who introduced you to golf and when did you start playing?

My father introduced me to golf when I was 9 years old, and I loved it! It became our excuse to get together when I got older. He was my only teacher for a very long time and my biggest fan when I competed.

Why do you recommend golf to women and girls?

I recommend golf to women and girls because it can be such a great tool in one’s professional career. It can offer great exercise—not just physically but mentally as well. It’s a great way to socialize. Golf, more than other sports, teaches so many life lessons.

How can golf be more welcoming to women and girls in the LGBTQ+ community?

There needs to be a dedicated resource for diversity in local chapters and clubs.

What have you learned from past LGBTQ+ golfers and their journeys?

I learned from players like Karrie Webb and Rosie Jones to be classy no matter what. It shouldn’t mater about your sexuality. Golf is hard enough! Let your talent show.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be bold! You can play with anybody. It took me a long time to convince myself that I belonged and could play just as well as anyone in the field.

Who would be in your dream foursome?

Karrie Webb, Nancy Lopez, and Meg Mallon
