When it comes to getting women excited about golf, you can’t underestimate the importance of creating experiences that feel personal and unique.

This week, I had the chance to attend an event hosted by PUMA Golf in Carlsbad, CA. PUMA is a big brand, with celebrity and athlete endorsements with the likes of Usain Bolt and Rihanna, so I was excited to learn they’d be celebrating the launch of their new line of PWRSHAPE golf skorts while I was in town for the LPGA Kia Classic.

The launch party was hosted on the driving range of Aviara Golf Club, a coastal California course known for its views and horticulture. The setting was a gorgeous backdrop for a night packed with thoughtful touches and fun surprises for guests:

Small Touches that Made a Big Impact

PUMA entertained LPGA players and fans on the tournament’s practice range, handing out swag bags and cocktails to guests upon arrival. The food (and did I mention there were cocktails?) was delicious, and we couldn’t have asked for a better night of California weather.

The atmosphere was laid back with a mix of locals and women who traveled to watch the tournament or play in the pro-am, which made for great conversation and networking. The timing for an event like this was ideal, and mid-way through the evening we had the chance to take in an amazing sunset.

One of my favorite small touches from the night were the nail and eyebrow shaping stations. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a glam squad take over a driving range at a golf course, but I’m hoping it won’t be the last!

Lexi Thompson, She’s Just like Us!

We all know PUMA for it’s high performance apparel and athletes. One of the highlights of the night was a special appearance and intimate Q&A session with LPGA player Lexi Thompson who shared just how important feeling confident in how she looks is to her game.

Even a not so great round on the golf course feels better when you’re dressed to the nines, and that’s no different for professional players like Lexi.

After the Q&A Lexi pulled out her clubs to put on a show. She’s one of the longest players on the LPGA Tour, so when asked if she had a favorite club it was no surprise that her favorite club is her driver.

A great piece of advice Lexi gave the ladies came when she shared what goes through her mind before she takes a swing in competition.  Her routine before hitting a golf shot: “I see my shot then take a deep breath before I take it away.”

The night ended with an autograph session, giving everyone the chance to personally meet and chat with Lexi and snap selfies.

It was a memorable evening with more take-a-ways than just swag bags and autographs. It was a perfect example of how to host an event that resonates with women of all ages and gets them excited about the game.
