Imagine traveling solo to play golf among the cornfields in Nebraska, or teeing it up with friends at iconic Pebble Beach . . .
Well, Oneda Castillo did just that.
Oneda caught the golf bug while tagging along to the golf course with her husband. She’d finally made up her mind that she would step out of the cart and take a swing herself. From then on, she was hooked. Now, she’s parlayed her passion for the game to a full-time career in golf as Global Education Instructor for the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals and Director of Golf for the Women in Golf Foundation.
For a woman passionate about the game, aspiring to play as many courses as possible may not come as a surprise. But Oneda took that one step further by setting a goal to travel to all 50 states to play golf in each and every one of them. When she couldn’t manage to drag her husband or friends along with her, she’d just as gladly go it alone, traveling solo to states like Kansas and North Dakota to check them off of her bucket list.
We had the honor at the 2018 PGA Merchandise Show of speaking to Oneda about her resilience and passion for the game of golf.
Awesome story! Oneda always inspires me to be a better golfer.
Oneda Is One Of Our Very Best In The LPGA Teaching And Club Professional Membership. I Feel Fortunate To Both Work With Her In Our Global Education Program And Also To Consider Her A Friend. Class. Inspiration. Thanks, Oneda!!
Inspiring Story!! If I knew Oneda before she finished her 50 state bucket list I would have been right there volunteering to accompany her as she checked the last few states off her list!
Oneda is an inspiration! A wonderful account of her adventure.
Wow – Oneda sums up the power of golf – this should be featured on the golf channel. If Oneda needs an accomplice on her nex golf adventure she can contact me.
You go girl! You are young, with plenty of time to start the 50 state tour all over again…come see us in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Jealous!!!!
Thank you for sharing your story. The two of us (Carol G and Carol F from Los Angeles) have made a similar journey to play golf in all 50 states over the past nine years. We have met wonderful people everywhere we travelled. We were met with skepticism at times but as soon as we finished the first hole, we were all golfers playing the game that we love.
Congratulations Oneda…I have 8 states left including Alaska and Hawaii. The others are in the NW…..
