I haven’t met many people who don’t like summer. It seems like even when temperatures fluctuate to the extreme, people are still in love with the season. There’s something in the air that puts everyone in a good mood.

The days are longer, work is lighter, and people… genuinely seem happier. Am I right?

Now, I realize none of these declarations are late-breaking news – summer is obviously a great time of year.  And for golfers, summer is next level – not just because the weather is nice and we can play plenty of golf, but because the spirit of golf pairs nicely with the spirit of summer… in more ways than you may realize.

Let’s take a look:

First, summer brings the band back together – meaning, your foursome. How awesome is it to reunite for another year of weekly golf dates/therapy sessions?  You automatically invest in your game and relationships by establishing a regular golf routine with a foursome, twosome, or golf league. That’s what I call double-duty fun -friends and golf.  Plus, in the frenzy of summer activities (if you have kids in sports, you know what I’m talking about), a weekly golf date puts your needs on the summer calendar too.

Speaking of your foursome, golf, in general, offers a great chance to renew friendships and relationships that are directly tied to golf. Maybe you and your husband have friends you only see during golf season. Or you look forward to the golf lesson drop-off so you can hang out with the other golf moms. How about your bestie from golf lessons? Golf offers many possibilities to deepen existing connections and relationships and form new ones with everyone you meet through golf.

Second, summer golf allows you to pick up where you left off last season.  Were you #nailingyourteeshots the last time you played? Riding on that high, you can sail into summer and continue working on your game’s good and not-so-good areas.  The promise of summer parallels the promise of continuous improvement in golf.

Third, it’s time to bring out your cute golf outfits and perhaps buy a few new ones.  Gone are the days when women’s golf apparel offered few options.  Today, the industry is on fire with outfits to match golfers of all shapes, sizes, and style preferences. And don’t even get me started on the shoes. It’s summer, so why not buy yourself a new pair of golf shoes? Right???

Fourth, goodbye predictable work schedule; hello outings and shorter days. Does anything beat knowing you’ve got a half day (or full day) off, sponsored by your company to play golf? From outings to charity events to client rounds, golf is the perfect forum to mix business with pleasure.  In addition, you can participate in outings and events outside of work, thereby growing your network while you have a great time, embrace the season, and make a difference.

Fifth, did you notice that everyone’s talking about, playing, practicing, or watching golf?  Especially in summer, the world of golf is just buzzing for men and women. Watch tour events on TV or travel to see them live. This summer is extra special as we’ve got the 2024 Paris Olympics and in September, the Solheim Cup will be played on US soil in Gainesville, VA. There are so many possibilities to catch the spirit of professional golf.

Sixth, embrace different ways to be part of the game. Another great way to enjoy tour events or charity events is to volunteer. You have an opportunity to watch great golf, help a good cause, see new courses, and meet interesting people.

Next, how about some golf getaways? Take advantage of the great weather and your summer wanderlust and schedule a golf getaway with your pals, significant other, or family. Adding golf to the agenda allows you to play new courses, visit interesting destinations, and meet new people.

And last but not least, summer is the perfect time to spend some serious time working on your game. Hit the driving range or putting green, take lessons, or schedule regular rounds and put all the elements together. The weather is right, the spirit is perfect, and the greens are waiting.

Let’s golf!
