You don’t have to be big and strong to hit the ball far. A good example of that is one of the longest hitters on the LPGA Tour is one of the smallest in stature: top ranked LPGA Tour star Stacy Lewis.

You may ask yourself how that is possible. It can be summed up in one word: SPEED!

How fast you swing the golf club will determine how far the ball will travel. The goal is to make sure the fastest part of your swing is through impact.

Too many ladies take cautious, non-aggressive swings because they are afraid the ball will fly offline. They sacrifice distance for direction. The goal is to find the right balance of club head speed that allows you to swing without fear of bad results.

On the practice tee, take your driving club and tee up four golf balls. Vary the speed of your swing by starting at 50% and go to 70%, 90% and finally 110%. Continue to vary the swing speed until you find the right percent for you. For example, if you have been swinging at 50% speed and you increase it to 70%; you add 20 more yards without sacrificing direction. Each person will have different results with this drill.

Spend some time to find the speed that best suits your distance goals.

Remember: No Guts, No Glory!
