The Chevron Scholars Experience at the 2024 Chevron Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., April 17, 2024 – The LPGA Foundation announced today the five high-school graduates selected to receive the 2024 Chevron Changing the Face of Golf Scholarship, and two additional high-school graduates selected to receive the Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship. These seven students went above and beyond with their outstanding academic excellence, leadership skills and work in their communities, while also fulfilling specific requirements for each scholarship award.

Chevron offers a Changing the Face of Golf Scholarship to five (5) female high school seniors of minority background pursuing a full-time, STEM-focused course of study at an accredited college or university in the United States. In addition, the Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship, established in 1994, the same year the Hollywood personality and original host of The Chevron Championship was inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame as an Honorary Member, is being awarded to two (2) female high school seniors who plan to attend college but not play golf at the collegiate level.

In 2024, Chevron in partnership with the LPGA Foundation will award seven (7) $2,500 scholarships, all renewable over four years, representing $10,000 total for each recipient. In addition to this total, during its inaugural year in 2023, last year’s seven (7) recipients will also receive $2,500 to reach a grand total of $20,000 for the year.

Chevron Changing the Face of Golf Scholarship

 Madison Cook is graduating from Middle College at GTCC Greensboro in High Point, North Carolina with great academic success, after being honored with the All-A’s Award, 4.0 GPA Award as well as the Principal Award. She demonstrated leadership by serving as the Secretary for the National Honor Society, Lead for Yearbook Photography Selection Committee and served as a Student Ambassador and “GatorAid” Freshmen Orientation leader for new students and families.

Cook received the Community Service Award for always giving back. In her free time, she is a camp counselor and member of the Board of Directors at Camp Weaver. She volunteers and serves as an LPGA*USGA Girls Golf eLeader, instilling confidence and perseverance in the younger girls through their enriching program.

Golf has been instrumental in Cook’s life. She got involved with Girls Golf in 2018 and has since been an active participant in the Peggy Kirk Bell Golf Tour in North Carolina. She has become a strong advocate for getting more African American women into golf and has offered many ideas on how to create equality and improve access to the game.

Cook plans to attend Converse University to obtain a doctorate degree and pursue a career in Anesthesiology.

 Angelina Huang is graduating from Ed W Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada at the top of her class of 646 students. She has served as Captain of the Clark High School Women’s Golf team for the last three years. Huang has played on a State Ranked Golf Team for numerous years helping her team finish third in state in 2021 and 2022 and second in 2023. She was named Athlete of the Year at her school in 2023 for her individual golf achievements. In addition, the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) named Huang an Ambassador of the Leadership Link. She was a finalist for the USGA-AJGA President’s Leadership Award and earned the AJGA Rolex Scholastic Junior All-American Honor, in addition to the Heisman High Scholarship School winner in 2023, among many others.

She has held leadership roles at her school serving as Secretary of the Health Occupations Students of America for the past two years, Secretary of the Nutrition Club for the past three years and Member of the National Honor Society for two years. With a deep passion for STEM, Huang also leads many organizations outside of school. She is Founder & President of the following organizations: Neuroscience for Athletes, Dentistry for Kidz, Dentistry for Kidz Podcast, Nevada Women in STEM and Nevada Girls in STEM. She serves as an intern at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

She is also a #1 Best-Selling Author for her book “Tooth Tales and Enchanted Smiles,” earning first-place at the London Book Festival as well as the 2023 Princeton Book Prize. She believes in giving back and acts as Fundraising Chair for the Smile Drive by American Tooth Fairy. Huang has donated over $17,000 from the proceeds of her book to charity and has raised over $25,000 for Shriners Hospital.

Huang is interested in studying neuroscience, statistics, artificial intelligence, and psychology in college with the hopes of entering the fields of dentistry or medicine.

 Sara Matos is graduating from Terra Environmental Research Institute in Miami, Florida. She earned the LPGA Act Like a Founder Award for the last six consecutive years since 2018 for her dedication to the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program and for changing the face of the game by pushing barriers and making a difference in women’s sports. Matos has been an active member of Girls Golf Miami for more than 8 years and has served as President of the local chapter. Currently, she is one of the 13 eLeaders on the National Board of Directors inspiring girls to pursue their #LittleGirlsBIGDreams.

She is known for being an empowering leader who always gives back. In addition to her work with Girls Golf, she has helped hundreds of people in her community by collecting books and school supplies, donating food and hygiene products, and working with her church to hand out bags for the homeless. Matos even started her own foundation in Miami called Fore More Than Just One Day to help people in need throughout the year, and not just during holidays.

She is a member of her school’s varsity golf team and has won fourteen Girls Golf events. In high school, she serves as the historian and photographer for her school’s debate club. Matos is an energetic and inspiring force who can be found building Legos, learning Korean or playing “Just Dance” when not on the golf course.

Matos plans to attend Concord University in Athens, West Virginia in the fall to play Division 2 golf and study biomedical sciences with the goal of becoming a doctor.

Ava Wolfe is graduating from South Tahoe High School in South Lake Tahoe, California. She is a multisport athlete who serves as Captain of the Girl’s Varsity Basketball Team and member of the Varsity Golf Team and the Alpine Ski Team. Wolfe has earned numerous awards and recognitions for her athletic and academic achievements. In 2023, she was recognized with the 3A All-League Division Todd Milton Sportsmanship Award and helped her varsity golf team earn the All-League First Team, All-State Academic Champions, and All-State Academic Team for four consecutive seasons. She has received the Golden Star Student Award.

In addition to her participation in sports, Wolfe is a member of her school’s Debate Club, Art Club, Climate Crew/Generation Green Club, and the National Honor Society. She has also been a member of Sierra Nevada Girls Scout Troop 143 since age 8 and has a deep passion for climate preservation. Wolfe volunteers her time working with Meadow Lakes Firewise USA and Girls Scouts to help clean up and educate her community on climate friendly practices.

As a prospective engineer, Wolfe looks to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering in hopes of incorporating her climate preservation interests to help advance electric and climate friendly forms of smart transportation.

 Isabella Zamarron is graduating from Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas where she currently serves as Captain of the Lady Wildcats Varsity Golf Team. Zamarron is a lettered member of her high school team and was recognized with the Wildcats Golf “Heart Award” in 2022. She has developed her passion for golf over the years through participation in PGA TOUR Superstore/First Tee Leadership Summit. She has worked as a camp assistant at Timber Creek Golf Course and was also a member of the Invited Club Getaway Membership program at Magnolia Creek Golf Course.

Zamarron has also achieved great academic success, having been recognized with many honors. She received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the American Legion School Award, the Girl Scouts Bronze & Silver Awards, and the Superintendent’s Scholar Award.

She has held leadership roles across many organizations at her school. Zamarron serves as Treasurer for Student Council, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and Vice Presidents of the Rho Kappa History Honor Society. She is also Lead Photographer for her High School Yearbook.

In addition to golf, Zamarron has a deep passion for aviation. She has been a student pilot since 2020, and is an active member of Women in Aviation, Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals.

She plans to attend Baylor University in the fall to pursue a degree in Aviation Science with a minor in Business Administration. Her dream is to become a Captain for a major airline.

Chevron Dinah Shore Scholarship

Shylah Brogan is graduating from Marshfield High School in Marshfield, Wisconsin where she serves as Captain for her high school’s Varsity Golf, Softball and Archery teams. She excelled in these three sports while also being recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and Most Improved Player for Golf in 2022. Brogan earned the Varsity Award in both Golf and Softball, for multiple years helping her team achieve 2nd Team All-Conference in 2023 in both sports. She also individually qualified for Archery 3D National Tournament in 2023.

In addition to her participation in sports, Brogan is a member of the National Honors Society, Student-Athlete Leadership Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Health Occupations Students of America (HOSOA). She serves her community by volunteering for many local organizations like Corpus Christi Soup Dinner, Ruby’s Pantry, Ronald McDonald House, Marshfield Medical Center, and the Hewitt Area Recreation Department.

Brogan plans to attend St. Catherine University in the fall to pursue a degree in Biology with a minor in Nutrition and hopes to one day become a Physician’s Assistant dedicated to helping others.

Kaylee Nguyen is graduating from Pensacola High School in Florida where she serves as Captain of her high school golf team, helping them qualify third place in Districts and qualify for the Regionals in Lake City.

She is actively involved in her school and leads many groups. She is President of her school’s Science Olympiad and French National Honor Society and serves as Vice President of the Science National Honor Society, to name a few. She is an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLOA), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSOA), the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and the National English Honor Society. She earned First Place Regional distinction from FBLOA for Entrepreneurship and Parliamentary Procedure and from the HOSOA for Creative Problem Solving. She is passionate about supporting her community having served as President of Crochet for the Homeless for the past two years distributing 50+ handmade scarves to local shelters and as Chapter Founder & Head for Letters for Rose creating cards to distribute to nursing homes to reduce loneliness.

In addition to volunteering as an Assistant Golf Coach and Chapter Ambassador, Nguyen has done a significant amount of work with the First Tee. She is an active member of the Participant Advisory Council and was selected for both the John Deere Drive Your Future Academy for female empowerment and the Game Changers Academy for diversity and inclusion. Even more impressive is the fact that she published a children’s book whose book proceeds directly benefit her First Tee Chapter and local library. Her book, “Old Oscar Was ODD,” was developed through The First Tee Innovators Forum as a creative service project to raise literacy rates and improve English proficiency.

After graduation, Nguyen will attend Johns Hopkins University to apply her love Science and English and become a Neurosurgeon and a Novelist. She hopes to help others on a grander scale, medically and mentally.
